Sardar Patel - A Symbol Of Unity

Once, a boy was born in the village of Karamsad in Gujarat to a gurjar family in British India. His eagerness to learn caused him to walk daily to schools situated far from his village. This eagerness resulted in the ambition to become a successful lawyer. After returning from England, where he had gone to study, he earned acknowledgement as an outstanding barrister. Greatly impressed with Gandhi's ideas, he decided to quit his career as a lawyer and devote his full time and energy to the freedom movement. The result of his and his fellow freedom fighters' hard - work and persistence was the independence of India. After independence, he successfully solved the mammoth problem of integration of princely states by persuading the princes, through his kind diplomacy, to join India. For this accomplishment, he is recognized as the epitome of unity all over the world.

Yes, this Karamsad - born boy was none other than Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Iron Man of India. I strongly believe that application of Sardar's ideas in today's world will lead to a substantial betterment of society. Unity is that force which enables us to endure even the hardest of hard times happily. Following Sardar's model, we should practice to be united at least in our own day-to-day lives.

This year it was declared that the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, that is, 30th October will be celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas every year. Also, Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Patel, will be installed near Vadodara in Gujarat. Statue of Unity will be the tallest statue in the entire world. I salute these initiatives of the government to acknowledge the immense contribution of this great leader to the well - being of India. I myself pay a tribute to Iron Man of India, through the following poem.

Once there lived a great man,

Born in an Indian clan.

Vallabhbhai Patel he was named,

As “Ironman”, he’ll always be hailed.

He secured India’s hard-won liberty,

By becoming a symbol of unity.

Alas, he is not in the present day,

To resolve disunity persistent today.

Folks are typed by the creed,

Before being asked about their deed.

Sure, independent we are,

But doors of inequity are ajar.

We have mistaken diversity,

For nothing but an agent of adversity.

Above this error we must rise,

So as to stop the painful cries.

Together, we stand as a community,

In the struggle to bring about unity.

Long ago Sardar had showed the path,

It is now our turn to walk the path.

The Guilt (Poem)

We all make mistakes. We all feel guilty about making them, some time or the other. Most of us forget about our misdeeds easily. Some of us keep on reminding ourselves of them. Here is the expression of a person whose guilty conscience  and  quality of self - criticism help him become a better person. But is he really done with his inner - battle?

Twice I apologized and was lovingly forgiven,

But inside the heart guilt is hidden.

There’s a hole in it that cannot be filled,

No matter what I do I cannot remove this guilt.

If only I could go in history,

And take back the misery.

But alas, that isn’t possible,

Regret is something which is possible.

In the mind a storm is brewing,

Reprimanding and criticizing.

I try hard to calm it down,

But the guilt often makes me frown.

Of the guilt I try hard to get rid,

But how can I, after what I did?

I accept that it will always be there,

And for the future I prepare.

Nevertheless, all of it transforms me,

Into a fairly pleasant personality.

Yet there’s a hole in the heart that cannot be filled.

No matter what I do I cannot remove this guilt.

Inferences

Well, as the title suggests these are some inferences about life that I've somewhat arrived at. They may be called Aphorisms. Of course, I realize that living by these is not easy, but I just hope they influence me in a positive way. I hope you too can identify with some of them.

Talent needs courage in order to be efficient.

An idea is like a plant, it dies if it is not nurtuted.

Rationality is a gift to us but very often it is the thing that stops us from fulfilling our dreams.

The main reason behind being depressed is not being where you are destined to be.

It is courage and consistency that makes an extraordinary man different from others.

A human mind can’t do without knowing, it always wants to know more.

Guilt is nothing to be afraid of. Every guilt trip is just an indicator of your improvement. It actually encourages you to improve more.

Ego is the root of all problems. It should be minimized as much as possible.

It is only acceptance that gives you peace.

Religion is but a simplified version of spirituality, it is for the masses.

Science was observed because men wanted reason.
